Caretaker job summary
REQUIRED: Caretaker (Health & Safety)
POST STATUS: Permanent
WEEKLY HOURS: 20 hours a week- hours to be discussed at interview but typically 7:00am-11:00am
SALARY: £13,572(pro rata)
PAY WEEKs: Full year
START DATE: 31st March 2025
Duties will include:
Maintaining the security and safety of the premises (buildings and grounds) and its contents. Undertaking daily security checks including locking and unlocking of buildings at pre-determined times
Undertake general porterage duties including moving furniture and equipment within school
Undertake minor repairs and maintenance of the buildings and site, including: painting and decorating, plumbing, joinery and construction
Operate systems such as heating and lighting
Managing the control of contractors, undertaking hazard exchange and monitoring work in progress
Undertake risk assessments and COSHH procedures
Act as a designated key holder, providing emergency access to the school site
Act as school contact in relation to premises related contractors
Organise testing for asbestos and other health and safety procedures
Monitoring and ordering cleaning and maintenance supplies
Supporting the Office Manager in supervising the school cleaning team
Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Headteacher
The post holder will be required to provide out of hours cover as necessary (evening / weekends)
Person Specification:
Previous experience in caretaking, facilities or site management role (preferred)
Ability to carry out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks
Understanding of health and safety regulations / willingness to undertake relevant training
Willingness to undertake minibus driver training
Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently
Good communication and organisational skills
The successful candidate will have: -
Excellent practical DIY skills
Experience in working in a maintenance role
Good interpersonal skills
The ability to use their initiative and prioritise their work
Full working knowledge of relevant policies / codes of practice / legislation, particularly with regards to health and safety
