Join a School Where Your Work Truly Matters

At Washington Academy, we know that a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment is essential for students and staff to thrive. We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Caretaker to become a valued member of our facilities team and help us maintain the high standards our academy community deserves.

As part of Consilium Academies, you’ll join a Trust driven by Excellence, Equality and Integrity, where every colleague is supported to grow, develop and make a meaningful difference.

This is more than a caretaking role — it is an opportunity to play a key part in the daily life of a vibrant and ambitious academy.

About the Role

As Caretaker, you will support the day-to-day management, maintenance and security of the academy site, ensuring the premises remain safe, operational and welcoming for all users.

You will work closely with the Site Manager and wider academy team, carrying out a wide variety of practical duties including:

  • Opening and securing the school site
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance
  • Supporting health & safety compliance
  • Monitoring building systems and equipment
  • Assisting with site security and emergency responses
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation
  • Supporting contractors and minor projects
  • Ensuring the academy grounds remain safe and well maintained

No two days are the same, and your contribution will directly support the education and wellbeing of our students and staff.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who:

✔ Has experience working in a practical facilities, site or maintenance role
✔ Takes pride in maintaining high standards
✔ Has a good understanding of health & safety and site security
✔ Can work independently and as part of a busy team
✔ Is proactive, reliable and solution-focused
✔ Can adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
✔ Is willing to contribute positively to academy life

Experience within a school or educational environment would be beneficial, but not essential.

Why Join Us?

At Washington Academy and Consilium Academies, we are committed to supporting our staff as much as our students.

We offer:

  • A welcoming and supportive team environment
  • Excellent professional development opportunities
  • Access to high-quality CPD through our Centre for Professional Learning
  • Opportunities to develop skills and progress your career
  • A strong commitment to staff wellbeing
  • The chance to make a genuine difference every day
