Casual Exam Invigilator job summary
Job Title: Exam Invigilator
Contract: Temporary / Casual (By negotiation and agreement)
Hours: As required during the Public Summer Examination Period and Mock Examinations (Year 11 and Year 13 mock exams in November and January)
Salary: £14.54 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)
We are seeking reliable, organised, and proactive Exam Invigilators to support the smooth and secure running of public and internal examinations at Colyton Grammar School. This role is essential in ensuring that examinations are conducted in full compliance with Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body, and school regulations.
Working under the direction of the Exams Officer, you will supervise students during examinations, ensuring a calm, orderly, and supportive environment while maintaining the integrity and security of the assessment process.
The successful candidate will:
- Supervise examinations in accordance with JCQ, awarding body, and school regulations
- Ensure examination rooms are correctly set up prior to exams
- Identify and seat candidates according to the required arrangements
- Supervise and observe candidates throughout examinations, giving full attention to this duty
- Respond appropriately to candidate queries in line with regulations
- Record attendance and report any incidents, disruption, or irregularities to the Exams Officer
- Collect, check, and securely return examination scripts and materials at the end of exams
- Maintain strict confidentiality of examination papers and materials before, during, and after exams
We are looking for someone who:
- Is organised, reliable, and detail-focused
- Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Can remain calm and professional under pressure
- Is flexible, adaptable, and able to respond to changing priorities
- Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Handles confidential and sensitive information appropriately
Experience working in a secondary school setting or prior exam invigilation experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
