You will also play a vital role in supporting any food cooking lessons as a Teaching Assistant. Pupils at this site will be in all key stages up to KS4. The post will suit someone who can work in a fast- paced environment with vulnerable pupils, is proactive and an excellent role model. The site may have approximately 60 pupils on roll and classes may have up to around 10 pupils in each. You will uphold food safety and hygiene standards. We do not have a large school kitchen on site. Currently, most of the food will be sourced from nearby and you will most likely be required to collect this on a daily basis, however, we are open to being flexible and seeking other options. Applicants should have strong mental and physical resilience, have high expectations, and a sense of humour. You must be able to build positive relationships with our pupils and think outside of the box.

You are required to have daily access to a car with business use included on your car insurance before you begin the role. For example, you may be required to collect lunches from other venues, transport pupils in your own car and carry out safe and well visits for non- attenders or with transition visits.

Potential candidates should directly contact the Executive Headteacher or Head of School to discuss the academy and relevant experience prior to making an application. Suitable candidates will be invited to an informal meeting on site to further explore the role.

South Derbyshire Support Centre (SDSC) is an Alternative Provision Academy based in Newhall, South Derbyshire, providing education for pupils who are at risk of permanent exclusion, or who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. There are 26 students on role with a third having Educational Health Care Plans and the remainder having a variety of special education needs. We also work with local primary and secondary schools to offer short term placements as a prevention to permanent exclusion.

The vision for the South Derbyshire Support Centre is to create a first class, holistic educational establishment that re-engages vulnerable children back in to learning. We wholeheartedly believe that the most vulnerable young people in our community deserve to have the same high standards of education as their peers. Our aim is to equip every child with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable successful integration back into mainstream education or for our Key Stage 4 pupils, to successfully transition into education, training or employment.
