Joining The King’s School Family – A message from the Headteacher.

Thank you for your interest in joining The King’s (The Cathedral) School at this exciting time. We are a unique Single Academy Trust, home to 140 members of staff, providing an exceptional education experience to 1,200 students, of which 400 are in the 6th Form.

Originally founded by King Henry VIII in 1541 the school is one of only three state funded Church of England Cathedral Chorister Schools in England. Located in the heart of the City of Peterborough the school celebrates the highest standards of academic achievement – progress is typically in the top 5% nationally for GCSE. Consistently rated as Outstanding by Ofsted (most recently in June 2024) the school educates students from diverse backgrounds, between the ages of seven and eighteen.

What makes the school Outstanding are the highly skilled and committed teaching and support staff, working above and beyond, in the shared belief that education is about more than just classroom acquired knowledge. At King’s we believe that it’s our student’s experience of our school beyond the classroom that will ensure their greatest growth during their time with us, as well as the achievement of their full potential.

Our Staff create opportunities and encourage students to explore experiences in sport, music, drama, art, design, technology, as well as volunteering in community projects and with local charities. Students can choose from, and get involved in, field-trips, residentials, competitions, individual activities or membership of a variety of teams and clubs. Most importantly the students themselves engage and contribute to school life in significant and meaningful ways. Sixth Form Students are heavily involved in mentoring younger students, as well as organising and leading a variety of in school societies including The Medical Society, The Law Society, Politics and Programming.

Everything we do is underpinned by our commitment to faith and worship and our five Christian Values – joyfulness, generosity inclusivity, spirituality and Excellence. Guided by our School Chaplain, school life includes daily opportunity for staff and students to consistently celebrate unity, community and the unique contribution of one another.

It’s impossible to describe in a few words the holistic way in which we view an education here at King’s and all of the opportunities that are available to our students. To get a sense of our aspirations for our school and it’s students, as well as the positive impact and confidence that we believe their journey here with us can have on them as they take their next steps in to further education or the world of work, please take the time to explore our website in full https://www.kings.peterborough.sch.uk
