Catering Assistant
Location: Based predominantly at Little Mead Primary Academy but may be deployed to Fonthill Primary Academy, Charlton Wood Primary Academy, Henbury Court Primary Academy with notice
Salary: BG4, £12.65 per hour, actual £12,207 per year
Contract: Permanent post.
Working pattern: 21.25 hours per week, 09:30am - 1:45pm Monday-Friday, term time only plus 4 addition days during the holiday period for deep cleans.
Accountable to: School Kitchen Manager and Trust Catering Manager
Reporting to: Trust Catering Manager
Job Purpose: To provide outstanding quality food and service to the school’s pupils and other stakeholders within the framework set out by the Trust’s Catering Manager.

About the Role:
As a Catering Assistant, you’ll play a key role in providing high-quality food and a positive dining experience in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Working closely with the School Kitchen Manager and Trust Catering Manager, your duties will range from food preparation and service to maintaining the hygiene and safety of the catering area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare dining and service areas, including setup and cleaning.
- Cook and serve delicious, nutritious dishes to standard recipes.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and adhere to food safety standards.
- Keep accurate records to ensure compliance with food safety and HACCP regulations.
- Provide support at nearby Trust schools when required.
- Continuously improve through training and development opportunities.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Knowledge and application of Food Health & Safety and Hygiene standards
- Understanding of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations
- Proven cooking skills with the ability to prepare meals confidently and safely
- Ability to engage positively with children of all ages, fostering a welcoming environment
- Demonstrates pride in presenting food in an appealing and appetising manner
- Strong ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively within a team
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Food hygiene certificate (Level 2 or equivalent).
- Experience in a professional culinary setting.
- Understanding of allergen legislation and food standards for schools.
- Interest in children’s nutrition and healthy eating.
