Catering Assistant job summary

Part Time Catering Assistant, Term Time Only, Permanent

Mondays to Friday, between 09:30 and 14:30, 22.5 to 25 hours per week, 45.20 weeks per year (salary will be paid all year round across 12 months in equal instalments)

We are looking for an enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join our busy, fast paced catering team, working term time, during school hours.

The Role:

Working under the direction of the Catering Manager, you will be part of the team providing catering to students and staff during the busy break and lunch periods. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages
  • Preparing the dining area for service, including the moving and/or setting up furniture and trolleys, and putting away after service
  • Preparing and working the service area, hot plates and other equipment as instructed
  • Carrying out cleaning duties
  • Manning the tills to ensure the efficient throughput of students and staff
  • Maintaining high levels of health, hygiene and safety and adherence to allergen regulations and other food standards practice

What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone with good interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to communicate at all levels. Experience of working in a similar role, having a catering background or experience of producing food items would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will also:

  • Have basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be able to work in a team and under own initiative
  • Be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Be a quick learner
  • Be clean, tidy and presentable
  • Be able to undertake basic manual handling tasks such as moving and lifting stock/equipment
