Catering Assistant

Details: 12.5 hours per week (12noon to 2.30pm) term time only + 5 PDD Days. Some overtime may be available for special events and hospitality

The position is permanent, following a 6 month probationary period.

What are we looking for?

Join The Hereford Church of England Academy as a catering assistant and play a key role in supporting to deliver high-quality, nutritious meals to our students, staff and visitors. The successful candidate will join a highly regarded and successful catering team in what will be a demanding, varied and extremely rewarding role.

We are looking for someone who ideally has experience in a busy catering establishment, preferably in a school environment. The role will involve assisting in the preparation of food, serving food to the Academy students (aged 11 to 16) and staff at break and lunchtime, operating a till, cleaning and washing up, dealing with deliveries and restocking shelves. You will also be involved in providing refreshments for meetings and catering for our renowned hospitality events.

You will have a basic knowledge of Health & Safety policies/procedures i.e. COSHH, Manual Handling etc. and hold a L2 Food Hygiene Certificate or be prepared to train.

The kitchen is busy, so you will be well organised and possess a calm and positive manner. The role has lots of varied responsibilities so you should be flexible and comfortable with every day being different. An enthusiastic approach to hard work is essential, as is the ability to work effectively in a team and with initiative.

The post holder will be expected to support the Academy’s values and will contribute to the overall good order within the Academy, including behaviour management and promoting well-being of students.
