The Position

The canteen is the heart of our school, where our friendly, skilled and dedicated catering team provide healthy, nutritious meals (cooked from scratch) to students and staff, using innovative menus. Our school meals are very popular with both students and staff at all levels.

This is a wonderful opportunity to join a close-knit, supportive, catering team, who have a strong, shared purpose and a collective commitment to supporting students and staff with nourishing meals to help them thrive and succeed. Daily duties will include stocking up, clearing away, cleaning, washing up and operating the till. Training will be provided to support food preparation as additional support for the kitchen when there is staff absence or cover needed. This is a physical role, so a good level of fitness, flexibility and dexterity is essential; the role involves standing for long periods, bending, stretching, twisting, kneeling, squatting and being able to lift, carry, push and/or pull loads weighing up to 10kg; the ability to cope with exposure to extremes of temperature is also required. Flexibility to cover additional hours when needed is desirable.

Pay: £12.85ph, paid monthly; actual salary £9,331pa (based on 16 hrs)

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a positive ‘can do’ approach; someone who is comfortable receiving direction and adapting to changing priorities - sometimes at short notice. You must be able to work efficiently and flexibly in order to contribute to the busy, team environment. The successful candidate will be physically fit and able to perform all aspects of this role, which includes bending, lifting etc.; they will display a friendly and professional manner at all times, especially in communications with students and staff. Competent IT skills are essential in order to complete required safeguarding and role related training online. An understanding of health and safety, allergens and COSHH are required.
