Chaplaincy and Youth Ministry Member job summary

CHAPLAINCY AND YOUTH MINISTRY TEAM

The Little Way Catholic Educational Trust are very excited to recruit Chaplaincy and Youth Ministry team members to support the primary schools within our Trust with chaplaincy and youth ministry. We are at the start of our journey into developing a team of youth ministers to work within our Trust schools. These roles will be to work across six primary schools in the first instance and so a willingness to travel between those schools (across Gloucestershire) either by own transport or using public transport or lift shares is necessary.

LWCET schools are welcoming, vibrant and flourishing schools where the life, teachings and person of Jesus Christ is at the centre of everything we do. Our ethos is founded in the knowledge that every child is created in the image and likeness of God (“wonderfully made”) and each life is of infinite value. St. Therese is the patron saint of our Little Way Catholic Educational Trust. We chose St. Therese because throughout her life she completed little acts with great love to make a big difference for everyone. And so our LWCET motto is: LITTLE ACTS, GREAT LOVE, BIG DIFFERENCE. We encourage all members of our community to imitate her little way each day. We want to be known for our fully inclusive approach which prioritises the development of the whole child and strong pupil progress outcomes, taking the raw and innate potential in every child and being able to mark the improvement that they have made during their time with the LWCET. They must leave us with development across all areas: academic, social, cultural, moral and spiritual. Your role as Youth minister would be to support in this development of the whole person as well as supporting staff to do the same.

You will need to be passionate about your faith, ooze enthusiasm and confidence to inspire our young people to be proud to actively live their faith every day. You will need to be committed to working closely with our senior leaders and RE teams, staff, governors, parish priests, school families, young people and other key stakeholders and delivery partners to create an environment in which our young people can thrive. You will need to be committed to upholding the Catholic virtues upon which our schools are founded and truly lead from the front whilst being committed to serving our staff and children: a servant leader. In return, we offer a close-knit team of leaders and staff who support one another and a committed and skilled Trust Board who put the children and their faith journey at the heart of all their decision-making.

It is important that you know that we are committed to safeguarding and promote the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Chaplaincy and Youth Ministry - What is it?

Chaplaincy is the provision of pastoral, spiritual, religious and compassionate care and support offered with love, sensitivity, generosity and grace. Chaplaincy provision in our Trust is modelled and inspired by the servant leadership of Christ and it seeks to engage, empower and enthuse all members of our Trust community. It is inclusive and central to the development of our Catholic Life and Mission and your role will be to co-ordinate and develop this, with passion and enthusiasm, to secure high quality chaplaincy provision for all stakeholders in our Trust family, regardless of their background or beliefs. Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is a key strand within Catholic Life and Mission and an area for development in our schools. The Trust’s CLM Policy and the Catholic Schools’ Inspectorate (CSI) Handbook (which has a section on CLM) will help guide you in your role.

Youth Ministry is focused on engaging and nurturing the spiritual growth of our young people. It is inclusive. Your role will be to help our young people grow in their understanding and relationship with God through prayer, worship, Bible study and other creative faith-based activities and support them to explore their faith, build community, and develop into responsible, contributing members of their faith community and the wider world. The Trust’s Prayer And Liturgy Policy and Catholic Schools’ Inspectorate Handbook (which has a section on CW) will help guide you in your role. You will also follow the Prayer and Liturgy Directory, ‘To Love You More Dearly’, which was published in 2023 by the Bishops’ Conference and the Catholic Education Service.

In deciding whether to contact us to find out more, it would be helpful to reflect on the following questions:

Is your faith your daily inspiration?

Do you believe the gospel speaks to everyone?

Do you have a burning desire and proven ability to share your faith with others?

Do you have a deep commitment to work with young people?

Do you bring energy, creativity and passion to your work?

Are you excited about the possibility of joining a dedicated team of committed and hardworking staff?

If you can answer YES to all of the above then we’d love to hear from you.

Please note, this role is term time only. This means you will work full time, during the academic year, but wont be working during the school holidays, apart from 1 or 2 weeks which will be mutually agreed in advance.
