What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an inspirational teacher with experience of working with pupils with ASD and complex needs. You would join a dynamic and dedicated team committed to the development of the whole child and harnessing individual strengths and interests. You will

  • Plan, deliver and adapt inclusive lessons in collaboration with the Inclusion Team to ensure pupils with ASD can fully access the curriculum

  • Take responsibility for leading whole-class, small group and targeted one-to-one teaching to meet individual learning needs.

  • Design and adapt learning tasks, resources and activities to ensure appropriate challenge and support for all pupils.

  • Establish and maintain a calm, structured classroom environment, using consistent strategies to manage and respond effectively to challenging behaviour.

  • Teach and model social communication and interaction skills, embedding these across the curriculum and daily classroom practice.

  • Create and maintain structured, low-arousal learning environments that support regulation, engagement and independence.

  • Actively engage in professional development to strengthen inclusive practice and improve outcomes for pupils with complex needs.

  • Promote peer interaction, independence and self-regulation, enabling pupils to develop confidence and autonomy as learners.

ASD Resource Base Teacher

Main Purpose of Job

  • Provide outstanding teaching, learning and developmental opportunities

  • Identify individual strengths, interests and needs

  • Be committed to the development of the whole child

  • Forge positive professional relationships and work with parents in the best interests of their children.

  • Engage with external professionals and visitors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils

  • Promote strong progress and outcomes for pupils

  • Demonstrate excellent subject and curriculum knowledge

  • Plan and teach effective and well structured lessons

  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment

  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure pupils and the wider environment is safe and conducive to learning.

  • Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
