Experience

The Class Teacher should have experience of teaching, which may include experience of working with children with a range of needs

In addition, the Class Teacher might have experience of

Teaching across the whole Primary age range

Working in partnership with parents/carers


Knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding of the ability to think creatively across the whole curriculum.

Provide support for the individual needs of all the children (e.g. classroom organisation and learning strategies).

Understanding of the Statutory National Curriculum development and the processes that can be used to raise standards of achievement.

Monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting of pupils’ progress.

The statutory requirements of legislation concerning Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, SEN and Child Protection.

Positive links necessary within school and with all its stakeholders.

Effective teaching and learning styles and confident use of ICT to support learning.

In addition, the Class Teacher might also have knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of pupils with ASD


Skills and abilities

Promote the school’s aim positively, and use effective strategies to monitor motivation and morale

Develop good personal relationships within a team

Establish and develop close relationships with parents, governors and the community

Communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) to a variety of audiences

Create a happy, challenging and effective learning environment

In addition, the Class Teacher might also be able to develop further links with engaging parents.
