Class Teacher KS1 job summary

Dauntsey Academy is a ‘good’ (Ofsted March 2020), single form entry primary school with 190 pupils on roll. We are nestled in the village of West Lavington, near Devizes, surrounded by fields and our beautiful grounds. We have an exciting opportunity for someone who would relish making a difference to the lives of our inquisitive, kind and well-behaved learners.

We are looking for a highly skilled, creative and nurturing KS1 class teacher to join our team from September 2025 with responsibility for teaching Year one. You will need to have a passion for providing pupils with the highest standard of education, inspiring them to develop lifelong learning skills and ensuring they thrive in a school in which they feel safe and valued.

At DAPS we passionately believe that young children learn best through play and exploration, this is why in Year one, we have built on the excellent practice found in EYFS. Continuous provision sparks curiosity and promotes challenge in learning, allowing children to explore their own interests independently. Our children are taught through a carefully planned blend of whole class lessons together on the carpet and small group work at the tutor table to enable their learning to be appropriately supported and challenged. Children also have time to demonstrate and deepen their learning in continuous provision which we call Discovery Learning time, supported by an adult. During this time, the children have continuous access to a wide range of resources indoors and outdoors which have been carefully selected to support their learning, allowing them to follow their own lines of enquiry. Our children are introduced to weekly challenges called Rainbow Challenges, where they can independently apply skills which have previously been taught. This allows our children to demonstrate their understanding independently which in turn allows staff to plan the next steps in the children's learning journey. Areas of provision will often be enhanced to make links to adult led learning, providing opportunities for our children to practice and consolidate previous learning.

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

Demonstrate a passion for delivering consistent high-quality teaching, alongside imaginative and innovative learning

Have experience of leading continuous provision, and a deep understanding that the adult is key to the success of a system which allows children to pursue their own interests

Be able to create a stimulating and well-maintained environment for all children

Have high expectations of yourself and others and have the ability to motivate and inspire children

Be a good team player, who can contribute to whole school initiatives

Have excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills

Have a warm personality, a good sense of humour and the ability to smile through anything the job throws at you!

Enjoy outdoor learning and delivering a rich, exciting curriculum

Have an ongoing commitment to your own professional development and wellbeing

We can offer:

Respectful children with strong positive learning attitudes who are engaging and keen to learn

A vibrant working environment, which combines and values the best of individual strengths, personal areas of interest and school-wide structure

A newly developed, rich and varied curriculum

Large grounds with an onsite Forest School area and a passion for outdoor learning

A friendly staff team with a strong, warm ethos of working together

Supportive parents, governors and school community
