What skills and experience we're looking for
Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality teaching and learning across both the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1, ensuring continuity, progression, and positive outcomes for all pupils.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons appropriate to both EYFS and Year 2 pupils
- Adapt teaching styles to suit play-based learning (EYFS) and more structured learning (KS1)
- Ensure lessons are inclusive and differentiated to meet a range of needs
- Promote early reading, writing, and maths skills across both phases
- Create a stimulating learning environment in both settings
Planning and Curriculum
- Plan in line with the EYFS framework and KS1 National Curriculum
- Work collaboratively with EYFS and Year 2 team members to ensure consistency
- Ensure smooth progression for pupils transitioning from EYFS to KS1
Assessment and Progress
- Observe, assess, and track pupil progress in both EYFS and Year 2
- Use assessment data to inform planning and next steps
- Contribute to reports and parent consultations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
Classroom Management and Behaviour
- Establish clear expectations and routines in both classes
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
- Promote independence and resilience
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils
- Follow school policies in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education
- Ensure a safe, secure, and inclusive learning environment
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with teaching assistants and other staff
- Liaise effectively with parents/carers across both classes
- Attend relevant staff meetings and briefings (pro rata as appropriate)
- Ensure effective handover and communication with job-share partners or class teachers
Professional Responsibilities
- Engage in ongoing professional development
- Contribute to the wider life of the school
- Stay informed about developments in both EYFS and KS1 practice
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching in EYFS and/or Key Stage 1
- Strong understanding of both EYFS and KS1 curriculum requirements
- Ability to adapt teaching across different age groups
- Strong organisational and communication skills
Desirable
- Experience teaching in both EYFS and Year 2
- Knowledge of phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc. or similar)
- Experience of job-share or part-time teaching roles
