Job description

Due to our continuing expansion Heltwate School is looking to recruit more creative and highly-motivated practitioners to contribute to the teaching and learning of pupils with special educational needs, disabilities and autism. We currently have a class teacher vacancy.

Heltwate caters for pupils across the primary and secondary age range who have been identified as having moderate or severe learning difficulties. Heltwate encourages pupils to do the best they can to achieve their potential in a safe, supportive and calm environment by a team who supports them throughout their time here.

We would welcome applications from experienced or recently qualified teachers with primary or secondary training. The ideal candidates will:

• have experience of teaching children with SEND, in either
primary or secondary phases;
• have high expectations of pupil behaviour, attitudes and
achievement;
• enjoy teaching an innovative, creative and integrated curriculum
which supports pupils who require a multi-sensory approach;
• be enthusiastic, confident and able to show initiative;
• be flexible and adaptable team player with excellent
communication and organisational skills;
• be able to effectively liaise with other professionals and external
agencies and can work effectively as part of a team ;
• have a friendly manner with a good sense of humour;
• be calm and patient;
• show evidence that they can form positive and professional
relationships with pupils, staff and parents;
• have good interpersonal skills and enjoy being part of a
supportive team;
• be committed to high quality teaching, learning and
assessment.

Essential qualifications

QTS

Excellent classroom practioner with good classroom management

Essential skills and experience

Knowledge of the National Curriculum requirements for the relevant Key Stages

Clear understanding of teaching and learning strategies and how these impact on pastoral issues

Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation and review processes to further impact on raising standards

Knowledge of successful behaviour support and mentoring to facilitate effective learning

About Heltwate School

Heltwate is a highly regarded mixed day special school offering education for pupils aged 4-19 years who have a wide range of interests, abilities and learning needs.  We provide the highest quality of education, therapy and care to children who have moderate to severe learning difficulties. In addition, we also offer Autism specific education. We are a school committed to life-long learning and our education includes the subjects of the national curriculum and more importantly communication, life and social skills. We are currently situated over two sites, the Heltwate main site is home to Reception to Key Stage 4 pupils and Heltwate St George's in Lawn Avenue,  Dogsthorpe is where our Key Stage 4 and 5 young people are located.
