What skills and experience we're looking for

The Dove-Shell Federation currently comprises two single form entry primary schools; St Thomas’ Moorside CE (VA) Primary School and East Crompton St James’ CE (VA) Primary School. The position is initially based in KS2 at East Crompton St James CE Primary School, but staff may have the opportunity or be required to work in any year group at either school.

The start date for this position is Monday 1st September 2026. ECTs are welcome to apply and will receive a paid induction in the summer term of 2026 to develop their skills and understanding of the school’s context and teaching approaches in preparation for the start of their ECT period.

The Federation has a proven track record of developing staff into exemplar practitioners, and middle and senior leaders. Integral to this is the facility to offer a range of teaching and leadership experiences across two schools.

Applicants will be highly organised, flexible, enthusiastic, have proven teaching and behaviour management skills and be able to work as part of an effective and hard-working team

East Crompton St. James’ and St Thomas’ Moorside entered into a hard federation on 1st July 2015 after successfully working in partnership for 2 years.
The schools now have one Governing body who have the legal responsibility for both schools and is very ambitious in its vision for the Federation.

St Thomas’ Moorside CE VA Primary School
St Thomas Moorside is situated within a deprived area of predominantly social housing. The school demographic is majority white British heritage, but with an increasing level of ethnic minority intake. Children largely live in very close proximity to the school. Pupils mainly enter from St Thomas nursery setting, but an increasing proportion are admitted from other nursery settings in the area. The population in school is relatively settled with some movements in or out of school.
The school is a Church of England Voluntary Aided school. The Manchester Diocese RE syllabus is delivered. Pupils attend church for the main Christian festivals and the church’s vicar delivers worship to the whole school weekly. In the SIAMS inspection of June 2025 the school was judged to be living up to its foundation as a Church school and is enabling pupils and adults to flourish.
The current Ofsted grade is Good from an inspection in July 2024.
Deprivation: 53.6% of pupils are in the most deprived 5 to 10% in the country (compared with Oldham Primary Schools average of 30.7%)

East Crompton St James’ is situated in a large village on the outskirts of Oldham, bordering Rochdale. This is an average-sized school with capacity for 210 pupils on roll from Reception to Year 6 and is situated near the parish church in spacious buildings. Housing is mainly privately owned. Pupils are mainly of white British heritage and most live in the local community. Pupils enter from a variety of nursery settings in the area. The population in school is settled with few movements in or out of school. FSM/PP has risen from 12% in 2012 to 33.3% in 2022 & 41% in 2023
The school is a Church of England Voluntary Aided school. The Manchester Diocese RE syllabus is delivered.
