Class Teacher Year 1 + 2 job summary
Fordcombe is a small school with a big heart. We believe that children growing as individuals is as important as growing academically. All our pupils have the opportunity to lead at school as they move into Year 5 and 6: this is something that we are passionate about. As a staff, we believe that experiential learning is key to success: we arrange many trips, external visitors and are always embarking on themed days and weeks. We set high standards for ourselves and for those in our care. Fordcombe School is a family.
We are looking for a full time teacher to join our close-knit team to provide maternity cover for one year in our combined Year 1 / 2 class.
Teaching a mixed-age class can bring both exciting rewards and extend and enhance your practise. Our experienced team are ably positioned to support any applicant who is not yet familiar with a mixed age class.

High expectations of themselves and the children in their care
Experience of supporting children at each stage of their individual and collective learning journey
A commitment to their own professional development and the development of others

We can offer you:
Positive, professional and very supportive colleagues
The chance to work with our amazing, hard-working and enthusiastic pupils
Really supportive parent and community relationships
A vibrant and dynamic working environment
Great links with local schools through our partnerships wih the Sevenoaks Partnership of Schools, the Tenax Trust and the Kent Teaching School Hub.
Do you…
Enjoy teaching and the privilege of shaping young people's lives?
Have a desire to make a lasting difference to the young people in your care?
Enjoy working within a rural setting with a supportive and close-knit community?
If so, this could be the ideal opportunity for you!

We are a small, half-form entry primary school situated in the beautiful Kent countryside. The school hall is in the Victorian part of the building and most of the classrooms are in a newer purpose built extension. We have a great library space as we believe all children should have the opportunity to read widely and be reading for pleasure. We are small team that believes we should be doing ‘big school things’. Beyond the core curriculum, our current focus is music, French, PE and developing teacher expertise in computing. The focus has changed and evolved as each new member of staff has joined us bringing with them different passions and skills. We share our high academic expectations with all our staff, parents and young people: we work hard as a group so that all pupils achieve well. More than this, we believe a primary school should be a place where children start to learn who they are, start to learn who they want to be and start to learn how they are going to live their lives.
