Classroom Support Assistant (CALS) job summary
Classroom Support Assistant 1:1 Support (Curriculum Area Learning Supervisor) – To start as soon as possible.
Hours of work: 37 hours but can be flexible. We require staff who can work during school times (actual salary will be pro-rata to the contracted hours).
We require 2 Classroom Support Assistants (Curriculum Area Learning Supervisor) to join the team at Hednesford Valley High.
Job 1
To work with students with SEN in a classroom. This could involve working 1:1 with an ASC student and with small groups in the classroom or the Learning Resource Centre. You will be required to monitor the progress of individual students and carry out intervention work to support learning and social skills. You will be required to prepare resources or support in after-school clubs.
Job 2
To work with a student on a 1:1 basis who requires suction and support with PEG feeding (training will be given). This role also involves support with communication and learning and working with other SEN students in the group and the classroom.
We require a flexible and creative individual who:-
• Has very good numeracy/literacy skills equivalent to GCSE C and above.
• Experience of working in a school.
• Has NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or recognised equivalent qualification.
• Has excellent communication skills with students, parents/carers and professionals.
• Can use ICT to support and enhance teaching and learning.
• Can act as Cover Supervisor during the absence of teaching staff.
• This person will occasionally be involved in supporting students with their personal care if required.
• Has a passionate commitment to raising the attainment of all students in a special school.
• A team player who is able to work collaboratively with others.
• This role can change to work across the school/sites with other student groups if required.

Students in Year 7-11 are based at the Hednesford Valley High, Stanley Road Site, and students in Years 12-14 are based in E block at Cannock Chase High. The school caters for a wide range of students, many with more than one area of SEN.
