The Role

As a Cleaner at Byron Wood Academy, you will play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. Working as part of a supportive site team, you will ensure classrooms, corridors, offices, and shared areas are kept to a high standard of hygiene and presentation each day. The role involves a variety of tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, wiping surfaces, emptying bins, and reporting any issues around the building. Although much of the work is completed independently, you will be an important part of the wider school community, helping to create a positive atmosphere where children can thrive. We are looking for someone who is reliable, takes pride in their work, and enjoys contributing to the smooth running of a busy primary school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean classrooms, offices, corridors, toilets, and communal spaces to a high standard
  • Undertake general cleaning duties including vacuuming, mopping, wiping surfaces, dusting, emptying bins, and replenishing supplies
  • Ensure cleaning equipment is used safely and stored appropriately
  • Report any cleaning, maintenance, or safety issues to the Site Manager
  • Work efficiently to complete daily cleaning schedules within allocated timeframes
  • Follow all school policies, including health and safety and safeguarding procedures
  • Support the wider site team when required to ensure the smooth running of school operations
What We’re Looking For
  • A dependable and hardworking individual with a strong attention to detail
  • Previous cleaning experience in a school or similar environment (desirable, not essential)
  • Ability to work independently and take pride in maintaining high standards
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Awareness of COSHH and safe use of cleaning materials (training can be provided)
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment
