Clerk to Governors job summary

This role is crucial in supporting our Governors carry out their responsibilities effectively and requires someone who is competent, organised and flexible with excellent communication, literacy, IT and administrative skills. Previous experience would be an advantage.

The Clerk to the Governors is responsible for providing high level advice to the Governing Body on constitution, governance and procedural matters as well as providing effective administrative support including preparing and attending all committee meetings, taking minutes, keeping records and advising on local and national developments that will impact Governor’s work.

The Clerk will work closely with our Chair of Governors and it is essential that they are proactive, can work under their own direction and manage day to day issues that arise whilst keeping the Chair fully informed.

The role allows for a mixture of both school based work and working from home. Currently the Full Governing Body meetings (7 per year & approx. duration of 2hrs) are held on site with sub-committee meeting also on site.

Training for Clerks is provided by the local authority, as well as opportunities to network with other Clerks.
