About the Trust
Ebor Academy Trust is a family of 25 schools located across North and East Yorkshire, York and the Humber region. Our vision is to deliver high quality, rich and engaging education at the heart of our diverse communities. To do this, we are committed to building professional collaborations of best practice both across and beyond the Trust. Through this, we aim to enable all our learners to flourish, and to open doors for their best futures.
We genuinely seek to live our values of Excellence, Belonging, Opportunity and Respect, which underpin all we do.
About the role
We are looking to recruit a part-time Clerk required to manage primary school Governor meetings for 2 of our schools’ Governing bodies in the York area. The meetings will be attended in person with the remaining paper work being completed either from home or potentially a school office. The role is for 45 hours per school per academic year, this will be split between preparing for and attending the meetings and completing the relevant paperwork.
The role will predominantly involve compiling and organising agenda using a template provided by the Trust as well as attending and taking minutes at the meetings.
The role would suit someone looking for occasional or additional hours to develop their knowledge and skills in clerking or the educational sector.
You will be supported in your role by our team of clerks and Ebor Academy Trust’s Head of Governance, Wendy Harrington, who will provide training and guidance.
Job requirements
As the first point of call for the Local Governing Body, you will need excellent communication and organisation skills and be able to take detailed minutes during meetings.
Flexibility will play a key part in this role, the working hours will differ but the meetings for these schools are currently during the school day. However, it is possible there may be occasional evening work. The ability to travel to the different schools and meetings is also essential.
A capable user of Microsoft and Google software, you will have a professional and sensitive approach to handling personal information, understanding the importance of confidentiality and the ability to remain impartial. Experience of servicing formal meetings is desirable. However, full training can be given to the right candidate.
In return we can offer you an interesting, varied job within a friendly team of supportive schools, other clerks and dedicated governors.
Working with us
Although our clerks manage their own work, the systems used are the same across the trust, meaning help and support is never far away. We ensure full training is provided, whether it’s through courses, apprenticeships or coaching and mentoring. What is essential is the desire to learn and a commitment to providing excellent customer service at all times to school staff, parents and our pupils.
We offer generous terms and conditions of employment. All our staff have access to a comprehensive Wellbeing Programme to help you and your family stay healthy. This includes access to free private GP and nurse appointments, exercise advice and classes, plus a variety of specialist clinics as well as counselling services. We also offer significant discounts on many high street shops, online retailers and travel agents, not to mention free car parking at all our schools, an enviable pension scheme, sick pay and family friendly policies.
The Trust is striving to be an inclusive and diverse organisation, where everyone feels able to be themselves and experiences a strong sense of belonging. The Trust wholeheartedly supports the principle of equality and diversity in employment and opposes all forms of unfair or unlawful discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sex. We encourage and support the recruitment, retention and career development of people from as wide a range as possible of ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds and seek to develop a community of staff that accurately represents society as a whole. All applications for employment with the Trust will be considered against the criteria outlined in the person specification for the position advertised.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We follow safer recruitment practices and appointments are subject to, amongst other things, an enhanced DBS check. This also means that all applicants need to complete the online form in full as we are not able to accept CVs. Please see the Trust’s Recruitment Policy for further information.
