Construction Teacher job summary

Kaleidoscope Learning Trust is seeking to appoint a Construction Teacher (QTS accredited) to its “Outstanding” rated founding school Cloughwood Academy.

Cloughwood Academy is an outstanding special school, catering for pupils aged 8 – 18, with social emotional and mental health needs. We provide exceptional vocational education and preparing pupils for successful careers. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Construction Teacher to join our dynamic team. Our Construction facilities have recently been expanded so that we can offer both bricklaying and joinery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and high-quality lessons in Construction to pupils across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. You will play a vital role in equipping pupils with practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and industry-relevant qualifications. This will include:

  • Delivering City and Guilds Level 1 and 2 in Construction.
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment strategies.
  • Monitoring pupil progress, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring excellent attainment.
  • Maintaining a safe and purposeful learning environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Contributing to the development and enhancement of the construction curriculum.
  • Participating in school events, parent evenings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and uphold the school’s ethos and expectations.
  • Motivate and guide pupils to explore career pathways and further training opportunities within the construction industry.

What we are looking for someone with:

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in Construction or a related field.
  • A teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, QTLS, Cert Ed) or willingness to work towards one.
  • A strong knowledge of health and safety regulations in construction.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • The ability to inspire, motivate, and engage pupils of varying abilities.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
