Job Title: Primary School Counsellor

Contract: 1 day per week (employed term time only or self‑employed)

Location: The King’s C of E Primary Academy, Newark, NG24 4HU

Start Date: September 2026

Salary Grade 5 (£30,024 - £33,699 Full Time Equivalent)

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled and highly motivated school counsellor to join our pastoral team for one day per week. The successful candidate will provide emotional, social, and wellbeing support to pupils aged 4-11, helping them to develop resilience, confidence, and positive mental health.

Key Responsibilities

1:1 counselling — Provide therapeutic support tailored to individual needs

Small‑group wellbeing work — Deliver targeted interventions

Safeguarding practice — Recognise concerns and follow school procedures

Record keeping — Maintain accurate, confidential notes

Staff collaboration — Work closely with the DSL and pastoral team

Parent liaison — Communicate sensitively with families when appropriate

Required Qualifications

A recognised counselling qualification: minimum Level 4 Diploma in counselling (or equivalent)

Membershipof a professional body such as BACP, UKCP, or NCPS(or working towards accreditation)

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check, undertake safeguarding training, and demonstrate a strong commitment to and knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
