Cover Supervisor and Coordinator job summary

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Cover Co-ordinator and Supervisor to arrange the daily supply cover for teaching staff and supervise whole classes during short-term absence of teachers.

You will have the relevant drive, determination, experience and skill set to maintain standards of students’ behaviour in the classroom, ensuring that students engage in learning activities as directed by teachers.

At WA we offer excellent staff support and leadership development, good career progression opportunities and a friendly and dedicated approach to school leadership.

We are a forward-thinking school that has dispensed with formal lesson observations, retrospective book marking and written student exam reports but we have very high standards of care and outcomes. Behaviour is fast improving and our students are embracing the new school culture and are keen to progress.

We prefer candidates who are organised, friendly, and who possess a positive work ethic. Having a few good ideas is always welcome. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to be part of a team which will lead WA to outstanding and play a key role in helping to transform WA.

If you join us you will be part of an aspirational, committed and hardworking team that will look after you and help you progress in your career, with numerous opportunities for career progression across the Community Schools Trust.

Waterside Academy is a community school in East London, close to Haggerston overground train station.

Waterside Academy has embarked on a journey to become outstanding. It is being led by Charlotte Whelan and a highly experienced and skilled leadership team drawn from across the Community Schools Trust. Charlotte oversaw the transformation of Forest Gate Community School (Newham) from Requires Improvement to Outstanding in three years. We have the aim of making WA the best school in Hackney and are already making headway as we work towards this goal. We received positive feedback from Ofsted’s recent visit to the school in November 2019 with the key points summarised below:

‘Pupils and staff say that the school is now a different place.’

‘In a short space of time, the new headteacher, trust CEO and senior leaders have created a calm place to learn. Pupils’ behaviour is improving.’

‘Leaders have put in place systems and structures to teach pupils how to behave respectfully. Pupils follow school routines at the start of the day and following break and lunchtimes. This enables lessons to begin in an orderly way.’

‘Leaders and managers are taking effective action to improve behaviour and secure consistently positive attitudes to learning. Safeguarding arrangements are effective.’
