Qualifications and experience:
Experience of working with young people
A graduate with qualified teacher status or looking to become a qualified teacher in due course (Desirable).
Relevant qualifications (both formal and through appropriate experience) to meet the challenge of the appointment.
Excellent in-depth knowledge of the development of young people and the wider curriculum.
Sound understanding of policies relating to Safeguarding, Inclusion and Behaviour
Can use ICT effectively to support learning
Job description
Summary
We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified/experienced Cover Supervisor who will oversee classes during the short term absences of teaching staff. Appropriate work will be provided and it will be your role to manage student behaviour and keep them focused and on task. You will need to be flexible, have a desire to work with young people and have a calm and authoritative manner.
Duties of role will include:
Securing high standards of learning across the full ability and age range
Being a Personal Tutor (Form Tutor)
Having high expectations of young people
Being able to work effectively as part of a team, to identify opportunities for sharing good practice
Undertaking classroom supervision in the absence of teaching staff.
Supporting the work of one or more curriculum areas.
Taking part in whole school INSET activities to enhance job effectiveness.
Accompanying students on trips, visits and other educational activities.
Supervising students in line with the College Behaviour Policy; managing their behaviour to ensure a constructive environment.
Ensuring students follow and complete pre-set work programmes.
Ensuring registers, class and student records are maintained.
Liaising with subject staff and providing any relevant feedback to departments. Where appropriate, adhering to the College’s agreed Behaviour Policy to record the behaviour of students during the session and any other issues arising;
Collecting any completed work and resources after the lesson and returning them to the appropriate teacher or subject leader;
Assisting with the preparation of teaching materials and displays.
Assisting with lunchtime/break supervision.
Liaising and communicating effectively both verbally and in writing with staff, parents and external agencies.
Adhering to strict confidential practices in relation to all personal information relating to students, staff, and parents.
Attending and supporting College events including Parents’ evenings and Open Evenings where required.
Participating in staff development and training and undertake safeguarding training.
Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies in accordance with the College’s policies and procedures;
In a controlled environment, to supervise students who have been isolated from their peers as a behaviour sanction.
Fulfil wider professional responsibilities including:
Set and maintain high standards, expectations and aspirations for both staff and students, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect and that they receive appropriate guidance, support and recognition.
Maintain a safe and well-ordered learning environment, safeguarding students’ health, safety and wellbeing, managing behaviour effectively and rewarding success appropriately.
Any other appropriate duties and responsibilities relevant to the post as directed by the Principal, Vice Principals, or Assistant Principals.
