Cover Supervisor job summary

We are seeking to appoint a full time Cover Supervisor from September 2025.

This is an exciting role which would suit anyone who may be seeking to gain experience in the classroom before going on to teacher training in the future.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering pre-set work to students in the absence of a teacher.
  • Collation and organisation of cover work for teaching staff
  • Ensuring external supply staff understand the cover work and are given all relevant information
  • Supervising pupils engaged in learning activities
  • Managing behaviour in the classroom in line with the Academy’s expectations
  • Act as a role model and set high expectations of conduct and behaviour
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom
  • Keep pupils on task and respond to general queries

What we are looking for:-

  • 5 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade C, 4/5
  • 2 A level qualifications or Level 3 equivalent
  • Recent knowledge of working within a school environment is advantageous
  • Ability to establish rapport and respectful and trusting relationships with children
  • Good working knowledge of ICT to support learning and performance of own role
  • Ability to demonstrate effective implementation of the school’s behaviour management policy
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
