King’s Leadership Academy Bolton is excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated and flexible Cover Supervisor to join our dynamic and forward-thinking learning community. This role is an integral part of our commitment to ensuring a high-quality learning experience for all students, even in the absence of their usual teachers.

King’s Bolton is a non-selective free school, guided by traditional values and informed by the latest educational research. As part of the Great Schools Trust—recently recognised as one of the UK’s fastest-improving multi-academy trusts—we are redefining education through innovation, values-led leadership, and a supportive culture where both students and staff can flourish.

Our state-of-the-art school building, which opened in 2024, provides an inspiring environment for both teaching and learning. We are consistently oversubscribed and renowned for delivering an exceptional educational experience rooted in academic excellence and character development.

About the Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining continuity of learning across the school by delivering pre-planned lessons in the absence of teaching staff. You will manage classroom behaviour, provide support and guidance to students, and contribute to the wider life of the academy.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in a school environment, whether you are considering a future in teaching or seeking a rewarding role within education. You will also have opportunities to engage in training and development and take on wider pastoral and mentoring responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and deliver lessons prepared by teaching staff, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.

  • Manage student behaviour in line with school policies to promote a constructive classroom atmosphere.

  • Provide support and guidance to students during lessons, responding to questions about tasks and procedures.

  • Ensure the collection and return of completed work to the relevant teacher.

  • Monitor and report on student behaviour and engagement using the school’s systems.

  • Liaise with parents where appropriate to support student learning and behaviour.

  • Participate in Review Days by meeting with students and parents to review progress, attendance, and behaviour, and to set future targets.

  • Provide cover for longer-term absences or vacant posts when required, including planning and delivering lessons, marking work, and attending Parents' Evenings.

  • Offer mentoring support to students and contribute to the school’s wider character development programmes.

  • When not required for cover, provide additional support in classrooms or contribute to administrative tasks.

  • Actively participate in professional development and training as appropriate.

Monitoring & Assessment
  • Support teachers in evaluating student progress through a range of assessment activities.

  • Provide constructive feedback to students and contribute to progress records and reports.

  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of student progress and achievement.

  • Support the reporting of student progress to parents and attend Parents' Evenings as required.

Mentoring & Development
  • Mentor and support less experienced teaching assistants or colleagues as appropriate.

  • Contribute to the development of school policies and participate in staff meetings and training.

  • Play an active role in the school community and ethos.

Behaviour & Pastoral Support
  • Promote and uphold the school’s behaviour expectations and values.

  • Respond effectively to incidents of bullying, discrimination, and safeguarding concerns, ensuring compliance with relevant policies.

  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and external professionals involved in student support.

  • Provide supervision and support for students during off-site visits and school activities.

What We’re Looking For
  • A flexible, adaptable, and confident individual with strong interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively.

  • A genuine interest in supporting the learning and development of young people.

  • Good organisational and communication skills.

  • Experience of working in a school setting or with young people (desirable but not essential).

  • A commitment to the values of ASPIRE: Aspiration, Self-awareness, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect, and Endeavour.

Why Join King’s Bolton?

As part of the Great Schools Trust, you will benefit from:

  • Weekly dedicated CPD and leadership development opportunities.

  • Access to CredimusAI tools that support efficient working.

  • A strong wellbeing culture supported by our Staff Wellbeing Charter.

  • A collaborative and values-driven environment where your contributions are valued and recognised.

  • Opportunities for career progression and development within a highly supportive trust.
