What skills and experience we're looking for

Thank you for your interest in joining our school. We're proud to have been rated 'Good' by Ofsted and are working to become a national leader in education. At MAP, we are driven by a clear and ambitious core belief: every student who joins us has the potential to get to and through university. While we recognize that this may not be the right path for all of our students, we firmly believe that having this option is a hallmark of a successful, high-quality education—one that enables our students to excel in top careers and live their best lives. We combine academic rigor with a joyful learning experience, ensuring our students gain the knowledge, experiences, and support needed to achieve their dreams.

We are seeking to appoint a Cover Supervisor to work under the guidance of the Assistant Vice Principal to supervise classes during the absence of teachers. We operate a silent cover policy here at Marine Academy and expect the behaviour of students in cover lessons to match that of those taught by their specialist teachers; you will not be required to deliver complex cover work; we keep things simple so that consistency in every lesson can be achieved. You will be joining a small team of two other cover supervisors working within the Academy.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to get into teaching- we believe in growing people and there will always be an opportunity for talented people to develop their career further. We continually look to invest in our staff and further opportunities for development will be available for those who demonstrate excellent dedication within their role. After a period of rapid improvement, we are now firmly one of the best schools in the country, with high expectations and clear routines in place for students and staff alike.

Our cover lessons are highly prescribed with children, working in silence on high quality pre-set work. The expectations of these lessons are the same as any other and you will be supported to ensure that attitude and behaviour in these sessions is of the same high standard as it is in the rest of the school.

We prioritise staff well-being, offering work-life balance, professional development, and collaboration through the Ted Wragg Trust. We are proud to have nationally recognised for our commitment to staff wellbeing and workload reduction. Benefits of working as a teacher and leader at MAP include:

  • Scheduled ‘Golden Time’ where staff can work from home
  • Centralised, fully resourced curriculum
  • Centralised behaviour system
  • Instructional coaching
  • Meetings only take place on a Monday
  • Support of the Ted Wragg Trust
