Cover Supervisor job summary

St Matthew’s Primary School is looking for a cover supervisor to join their diverse & vibrant school.

Whilst St Matthew’s is one of the largest primary schools in Luton, it has a calm, personal and happy atmosphere. We are a big school with small community habits and pride ourselves on everyone’s personal, academic and professional well-being and this is a cornerstone of our ethos. The sense of being in an ambitious, supportive family is often commented on by children, parents, staff and visitors alike.

As a Cover Supervisor you will teach classes of children within your current experience, from pre-planned lessons alongside the year group team. You will be supported by the year group leaders within the year groups you are assigned to routinely or on an ad-hoc basis. You will very much be considered part of the year group teams.

Your hours will give you the time before the children arrive to get ready and after they leave to wrap up the day with the class team. You will also attend INSET days and weekly staff training to ensure you are up to date with how we do things, but also have access to new professional learning through these sessions!

From our new Cover Supervisor we would ask that you are:

  • A Positive, flexible and proactive team player

  • Able to explain the impact you have in your current role

  • Knowledgeable and experienced working within a primary school setting

  • Can lead the teaching and learning of individuals, groups and whole classes

  • Able to work in collaboration with teachers, contributing to planning and assessment of pupils and deliver high quality lessons

  • Have a good working knowledge of the primary curriculum and teaching of phonics

  • Ambitious for yourself to be an exemplary cover supervisor that every teacher wants covering them

In return we can offer you:

  • A truly child centred, friendly and holistic school

  • A strong team and school community built on good relationships amongst all

  • A safe and nurturing environment for our staff as well as our pupils

  • A leadership team who are interested in and dedicated to the professional development of all

  • Well behaved children who want to come to school and who love learning.

As well as:

  • Dedicated specialist teams to support the work of teachers e.g. PE team, Language team and Family team, ICT Specialist TA, two SENCos and complex needs provision

  • Teaching Assistant support in all year groups

  • Lots of extra-curricular activities and trips for the children

  • Career Progression pathways

  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme

  • Comprehensive whole school CPD programme

  • Comprehensive individual CPD programme

  • Onsite parking

  • A well-equipped staff room, access to school lunches and a central location with many amenities in very short walking distance

We all know a picture speaks a thousand words, so a visit to St Matthew’s is the only way to fully understand why you should want to work here…people who step over our threshold are amazed by the atmosphere, calmness and vibrancy of our school.

If we sound like the school for you, please call for an informal chat about available posts, arrange a visit or simply apply now.

St Matthew’s Primary School is a popular, oversubscribed and happy school full of enthusiastic and well behaved children eager to have fun learning. We are a well-resourced and energetic school which is well supported by parents, governors and the wider community.

Alongside our mainstream provision we host a Behaviour Provision on behalf of the Central Area Partnership (CAP), made up of nine schools. This provision supports children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs that can make full time mainstream education difficult for them. The aim of the provision is to provide an environment, pastoral and educational experience that keeps them moving forward in their learning but focuses specifically on their personal, social and emotional development.
