Cover Supervisor job summary

The successful candidate will:

• Supervise classes during the short-term absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain on task with the work set.

• Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour for learning policy to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.

• Distribute and explain pre-prepared work, ensuring students understand the tasks they are expected to complete.

• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff about any issues or noteworthy behaviour.

• Ensure a positive classroom atmosphere that supports learning, encourages student participation, and minimizes disruption.

• Take attendance and record absences in accordance with school procedures.

• Support students individually or in small groups if they need clarification or assistance with tasks.

• Liaise with teaching and support staff to ensure continuity of learning and address any concerns that arise during cover sessions.
