Cover Supervisor job summary

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our dedicated team here at The Mirfield Free Grammar.

The Cover Supervisor will work under the guidance of our teaching staff to support students as individuals or in small groups both in and out of the classroom. The role will also involve the supervision of whole classes during teacher absence.

As a Cover Supervisor you will cover lessons of any subject. As a key part of your role, you will be required to set high expectations; motivating and challenging students whilst managing behaviour effectively and promoting a positive learning environment.

Ideally you will have had previous experience in this field, or, alternatively, you might have worked as a Teaching Assistant and be ready for the next step. This could be the ideal opportunity for someone wanting to gain experience in a classroom before embarking on a career as a teaching professional. Whatever your circumstances, you must have a passion and enthusiasm for working with secondary school students and you must be motivated by the desire to help pupils develop and inspire them to realise their full potential.

This position can provide an ideal experience for graduates of any subject to then apply for teacher training courses. In return you will work with a progressive and forward thinking Multi Academy Trust where there are opportunities for development and career progression. As a Trust we offer many benefits including a generous holiday entitlement and contributory pension through the West Yorkshire Pension Fund. Great Heights Academy Trust is a growing multi-academy trust with nine schools in the West Yorkshire area with plans to further expand. In addition, we are home to a SCITT, Research School and an English Hub.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Academy is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Parents can feel confident that careful procedures are in place to ensure that all staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children within the Academy. Consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff. The Academy encourages parents and children to talk freely about any concerns or worries which may affect their wellbeing. All concerns are referred to the members of staff who are our trained designated Safeguarding Officers working as the school's Safeguarding Team.
