Creative Media Teacher - North Site (Tinshill LS16) job summary

Do you want to make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable students in the city?

Springwell Leeds Academy is seeking an exceptional, versatile, and specialist Teacher of Creative Media to join our North Site. This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape an emerging curriculum area in a bespoke SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school equipped with "The Media Hub"— our multi-media studio.

The Opportunity: Shape a Vision

As a specialist in this field, you will have the creative freedom to move away from mainstream restrictions and develop a bespoke programme of study. You will be at the forefront of a curriculum designed to foster creative engagement, develop social skills, and open doors to a growing global industry.

Key aspects of this role include:

  • Curriculum Innovation: Building and refining a curriculum that involves students in video production from start to finish—from concept and scriptwriting to green screen technology and professional editing as well as preparing students for roles on stage or in front of the camera through the delivery of Drama activities.

  • Industry Preparation: Equipping students with technical skills in video editing (using software like DaVinci Resolve), digital marketing, and storytelling to prepare them for careers in film, journalism, and advertising.

  • Social & Emotional Growth: Using Creative Media and Drama skills as a therapeutic tool to build confidence, teamwork, and emotional resilience in students who find traditional communication challenging.

Our Curriculum & Facilities

You will manage The Media Hub, a dedicated learning space designed for professional-grade audio and video production. Your work will span across all Key Stages:

  • KS3: Delivering themed projects such as News Reports, Music Videos, Documentaries, and Game Shows.

  • KS4: Leading students toward recognized qualifications, including AQA Unit Awards and Arts Award (Bronze and Silver) certificates.

  • Future Development: Implementing new strategies to integrate Drama and confidence-building activities into the Year 7 foundation to better prepare students for technical media roles in later years.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a specialist with a passion for Creative Media and/or Photography.

  • Possess the resilience, drive, and "imaginative flair" needed to engage students with complex SEMH needs.

  • Be committed to the principle of Unconditional Positive Regard, ensuring every student feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.

  • Have the ability to work collaboratively within our Arts Faculty, which is a recognised Artsmark Gold centre.

Why Join Springwell Leeds?
  • Professional Investment: We provide significant training and support to ensure you are confident in delivering high-quality learning in an SEMH setting.

  • Bespoke Facilities: The media hub is a specially designed learning space. This sits in a modern purpose built school designed to cater to students with SEMH challenges.

A Nurturing Environment: We prioritize the mental health of our students and staff, fostering a community where individual pathways are celebrated.
