About the Academy
Our academy, located in Watford, serves a diverse student body with mixed abilities. We are committed to providing an inclusive and engaging learning environment. The Head of Computing will play a key role in leading the department and shaping the curriculum.
Job purpose

The Head of Computing will lead the department, develop and deliver an engaging Computing curriculum, and inspire students to excel in digital literacy and computing. This role involves managing the department, ensuring high-quality teaching, and enhancing students' learning experiences.

Main responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Computing curriculum at Key Stage 3 and 4, ensuring it meets the needs of all students.

  • Manage the Computing department, providing leadership and support to staff, and promoting high standards in teaching and learning.

  • Monitor student progress, implement strategies for improvement, and support all students to succeed in Computing.

  • Manage the department’s budget and resources, ensuring effective use of technology and equipment.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive department culture, encouraging extra-curricular activities such as coding clubs.

  • Stay up to date with developments in Computing and educational technology, integrating new innovations into the curriculum.

Qualifications & training

  • Degree in Computing, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.



Relevant experience

  • Experience of working in a school setting

  • Leadership experience within a department is desirable.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

  • Strong experience in teaching Computing and delivering the Computing curriculum (including GCSE).

  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing a team.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of current trends in educational technology.

  • Ability to monitor and improve student achievement through data analysis.

  • A commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.

  • Willingness to work flexibly when required

  • Strong people skills, fair-minded and able to communicate well to a variety of audiences
