Curriculum Lead of Religious Studies job summary

“Difference is the essence of humanity. Difference is an accident of birth, and it should therefore never be the source of hatred or conflict. Therein lies a most fundamental principle of peace: respect for diversity.”  - John Hume

We are seeking an ambitious and inspiring Curriculum Lead of Religious Studies to drive forward our vision for Beliefs and Values education. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher who is passionate about shaping a curriculum that helps young people understand the world around them, develop strong moral reasoning and become respectful, thoughtful and active citizens.

At Didsbury High School we believe that to understand the world and our place within it, students need to explore the cultures, traditions and beliefs of others while developing a strong sense of self. Through Beliefs and Values, including Religious Studies, PSHE and Citizenship, we equip pupils with the powerful knowledge they need to become respectful, tolerant and active citizens. Our curriculum helps students make informed decisions about moral, ethical and current issues; celebrate similarities and differences; build positive physical and mental wellbeing; form healthy, respectful relationships; develop empathy and recognise ambiguity; take pride in who they are; broaden their worldview; understand the choices available to them; and learn about key religious beliefs and practices and their impact on society.

For further details on the role, including key skills and experience required, please see the Job Description and Person Specification attached below.

If you would like to join our Laurus family in a rewarding role that changes the lives of our students by empowering them to become the best that they can be then we would love to hear from you.

Please note a full application must be submitted as CV’s will unfortunately not be accepted in line with our safer recruitment process.

Didsbury High School is a new secondary free school for 11-18 students in South Manchester. The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education already provided by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and was recently named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.

Didsbury High School is the most oversubscribed first preference school in Manchester, we are a non-selective, non-denominational school, which opened in September 2019. We currently have students in Years 7 to 10. In addition, we will be opening our brand-new sixth form in September 2023.

Our students have access to state-of-the-art facilities in a brand-new building behind Didsbury Point. Didsbury is a suburban area of Manchester, 4.5 miles south of Manchester City Centre. The location enjoys the advantages of proximity to the open countryside of Cheshire and the Peak District, strong transport links and the cultural and sporting activities of a major city.

If you want to work in a highly ambitious and successful school and believe you have the vision and commitment to join our team, then we would love to hear from you.
