What skills and experience we're looking for
What the school offers its staff
The Geography Team
The Geography Department is one of the most respected and progressive departments within the school. There are four members of staff teaching Geography, and three specialist classrooms.
Our Geography lessons inspire students to be curious and fascinated about their world and its people. They equip students with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources, human and physical environments, and a deep understanding of the Earth’s key human and physical processes.
Our curriculum provides not only the opportunity to explore knowledge and understanding about the world but also different ideas and perspectives, and whether some approaches present stereotyped views of particular parts of the world.
We firmly believe that Geography has a crucial role in preparing our students for a very different world where they need to participate in a diverse international society.
Students have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of learning resources and styles. For example, students develop their problem solving and researching skills by using ICT, fieldwork and diagrams, internet, maps, videos, newspaper articles, photographs and books.
At KS4 and KS5 we follow the AQA specifications and use a variety of case studies throughout both the human and physical elements of the course.
There are a variety of opportunities for CPD and all members of the team are fully supported by a wider circle of colleagues to deliver excellent lessons and drive improvements.
We would like to appoint a dynamic and inspirational Geography Curriculum Leader who models excellent practice, is effective and enthusiastic, who has students’ progress at the forefront of their teaching, and who will inspire and lead our dedicated team of outstanding practitioners.
