Curriculum Leader of Maths job summary

Curriculum Leader of Maths – Join Us in Shaping an Exceptional Maths Curriculum

Are you ready to lead a high‑performing Maths team and shape an ambitious curriculum that inspires every learner? We’re seeking an innovative, strategic, and passionate Curriculum Leader of Maths to guide the direction, development, and impact of Maths across our school.

This is a key leadership role for someone who thrives on driving improvement, developing others, and ensuring that all students access a challenging, well‑sequenced and inclusive curriculum. With full responsibility for leading the curriculum area, you will play a central role in raising standards, enhancing teaching practice, and securing excellent outcomes for all.

At The King’s School, our Maths provision is strengthened by a wide range of enrichment opportunities—from maths clubs and challenges to a thriving Primary Maths Championship—helping students to achieve impressive results and develop a lifelong appreciation of the subject.

Joining our Maths department means becoming part of a strong, well‑established, and supportive team. You’ll benefit from:

  • A highly effective department known for strong outcomes and collaborative practice
  • Strategic leadership support from senior leaders and our Trust Director of Maths
  • Access to high‑quality CPD and leadership development, including opportunities through the Yorkshire & Humber Maths Hub
  • A fully planned and resourced curriculum, with scope to adapt and innovate to meet the needs of our learners
  • Engaged and motivated students who respond well to high expectations

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced and forward‑thinking Maths leader who is ready to take on a strategic role with real impact. You will be someone who can bring vision, ambition, and clarity to the curriculum—while also inspiring those around you to deliver consistently excellent teaching.

You will be a leader who:

  • Sets strategic direction with confidence, ensuring the Maths curriculum aligns with school and Trust aims and drives continuous improvement
  • Champions high‑quality teaching and learning, supporting colleagues to refine their practice and modelling exemplary pedagogy
  • Understands how to raise attainment, using assessment, data analysis, and robust target‑setting to secure strong outcomes for all learners
  • Is skilled in people and resource management, able to oversee budgets, deploy staff effectively, and cultivate a positive team culture
  • Builds strong professional relationships, working effectively with partner schools, families, external agencies, and the wider community
  • Thrives as part of whole‑school improvement, contributing proactively to an inclusive, ambitious, and supportive environment for all students

You will be someone who can bring fresh ideas, strong organisational skill, and the ability to motivate others, while maintaining high expectations of both staff and students.

This is a 1 FTE, permanent contract with a start date of September 2026.

About Pontefract Academies Trust

Pontefract Academies Trust is a cross-phase Multi-Academy Trust comprising of nine schools: seven primary and two secondary schools. Our mission is to run high-quality, high-achieving schools that give our children and young people the chance in life they deserve.

We are excited to share that we will be merging with Ark Schools on 1st September 2026. This partnership brings together two high-performing trusts to strengthen the support we provide to our children, staff, and communities. It will allow us to retain our Pontefract and South Kirkby family of schools while also benefiting from being part of a larger network of professionals. Most importantly, it opens significant opportunities for staff offering first class CPD, collaboration and knowledge-sharing across both trusts.

Ark is recognised as one of the highest achieving education trusts in the country and runs thirty-nine schools across Birmingham, Hastings, London and Portsmouth.  Their mission is to ensure that all children have access to a great education and real choices in life, regardless of their background.  Ark choose to work where they can make their biggest difference.  Please click here to find out more about the Pontefract Academies Trust and Ark Schools merger.

This next chapter builds on the exceptional progress that our schools have already made. At Key Stage 2, our primary outcomes are 24% above the national average, with five of our seven primaries ranked in the top 5% nationally for combined outcomes. Our secondary schools also continue to deliver strong results above the national average.

We also take pride in our workplace culture and the strength of our team who make this possible. In the 2025 Edurio Staff Survey, we received outstanding feedback, placing us in the top 10 trusts nationally for staff feedback. This was further recognised through three awards:

  • National: Trust Value Award – Excellence
  • Regional: Staff Choice Award (Larks Hill Junior & Infant School)
  • Regional: Trust Benefit School Award (De Lacy Primary School)

These awards reflect the culture we’ve built – one where staff feel valued, listened to, and part of something meaningful.  We’re excited for what’s ahead and we hope that you’ll consider joining us as we continue to grow.
