Curriculum Leader, PE job summary
We are a highly supportive school, backed by strong subject leadership and senior management, dedicated to fostering your professional development.
The PE department consists of seven staff members, including two part-time and five full-time teachers, three of whom hold positions on the Senior Leadership Team. We operate collaboratively, providing mutual support to manage the demands of our roles while prioritising staff wellbeing.
Physical Education is a core focus at AVA, supported by state-of-the-art facilities including a fully equipped 3G football pitch, an Astroturf hockey pitch, with floodlighting, a multi-use games area (MUGA), extensive playing fields, and a well-resourced gym. As the school continues to expand, exciting opportunities for professional growth and development will become available, allowing you to further advance your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Being an all-through school allows us to work closely with Primary colleagues and share best practice between Phases to ensure smooth transition for students on entry into the Secondary Phase.
We currently provide a comprehensive range of courses at both GCSE and Post-16 levels, with certain year groups in Key Stage 4 accommodating multiple classes. Our current curriculum includes OCR GCSE Physical Education and NCFE Health and Fitness at Key Stage 4, alongside BTEC Level 3 Sport provision at Key Stage 5.
The successful applicant will have a passion for learning, possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate resilience, be an excellent teacher, and have extensive subject knowledge, including experience with multiple GCSE specifications. Additionally, they must be capable of building strong relationships with staff and have the ability to lead a team effectively.
