Swanshurst is a large, outstanding school for girls aged 11-19 years. We offer excellent support and CPD for staff at all stages of their career. The school is part of the newly formed West Midlands Academy Trust (WMAT) which opened in January 2025. As one of the three founding members, the school has been integral to forming the Trust’s mission:

We are looking to appoint a leader of mathematics who is passionate about improving the aspirations and outcomes of our High Prior Attainers, including Pupil Premium students, in mathematics.

The mathematics department is a highly successful one, making a significant contribution to pupil progress scores that are consistently above the national average. We would expect the successful candidate to be able to teach mathematics at Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. The department also teaches further mathematics and Level 3 mathematical studies.

This role requires someone who feels strongly about and is proactive at making a difference to the lives of our students by providing them with the best access to the next stage of their education.

The successful candidate will work closely with the leadership team of the department to lead on the following areas:

  • Quality assuring schemes of work and resources to ensure that the needs of High Prior Attainers, including Pupil Premium, students are specifically catered for and that school and team improvement priorities are fully implemented and evaluated for impact, making recommendations for improvement where required.
  • Quality assuring teaching and learning for High Prior Attainers, including Pupil Premium students, in mathematics.
  • Developing and delivering training to staff to develop subject knowledge and pedagogical subject knowledge, specifically to the provision for High Prior Attainers, including Pupil Premium students.
  • Working in collaboration with other departments to share outstanding practice relating to provision for High Prior Attainers, including Pupil Premium students.
  • Engaging with and disseminating current educational research relating to High Prior Attainers, including Pupil Premium students.
