What skills and experience we're looking for
- A relevant good honours degree
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Leading on a Teaching and Learning initiative
- Substantial experience of teaching students at Key Stage 3 and 4
- A good classroom practitioner
- A good understanding of effective and engaging teaching methods
- The ability to engage, enthuse and motivate students
- Experience of teaching up to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
- An understanding of the use of assessment to inform planning
- Evidence of improved student outcomes
- The ability to plan lessons and sequences of lessons with clear objectives to ensure progression for all students.
- The ability to set consistently high expectations for all students through class work and homework.
- Experience of monitoring and marking students’ work by providing constructive oral and written feedback
- Can demonstrate strategic thinking and planning that builds, communicates and carries forward a shared vision.
- Ability to use data effectively to enable improvement.

We are a community school with 820 students aged 11-16 years on roll. Situated in the historic town of Dalton in Furness, we enjoy being on the fringe of the Lake District National Park. As an Ofsted rated ‘good’ school, we believe in high expectations, excellent teaching and ambition for every young person.
Dowdales Mathematics department is a well-established team of 6 full and part time members. We are seeking an inspirational teacher to support the Academic Team Leader in the leadership and management of the team to ensure outstanding outcomes for the full cohort of students.
Our ethos as a department is that all students can achieve in mathematics and should be provided with adaptive teaching that enables this success.
Students have 4 lessons per week across both key stage 3 and 4. We follow an ambitious, newly developed scheme of work that challenges all students.
Extra curricular activities are a strength at Dowdales, and the maths department contributes to this through educational visits, team and individual challenges and clubs.
