Deputy Designate Safeguarding Lead/Attendance Lead job summary

Coleridge Primary School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and resilient Safeguarding Officer/Deputy Designated Lead to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in the school and to coordinate the support needed to ensure students’ safety and welfare at all times.

Coleridge Primary school is rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted and is situated in the centre of Rotherham. We are a one form entry primary school, who are seeking to appoint a motivated, dedicated and driven DDSL and Attendance lead. We are an inclusive and friendly school which has a diverse catchment at the heart of our community. We are an Academy School, part of the Central Learning Partnership Trust (CLPT) and work collaboratively across the 3 schools in our community. We strive to ensure our children receive an education which inspires and promotes positive learning and ensure that rigorous CPD supports all staff in becoming the best they can be.

Key purpose of the post

The deputy designated safeguarding lead is responsible for supporting the DSL in ensuring that child protection files are kept up to date. Other key aspects of the role are:

Managing day to day safeguarding and child protection

Keep the Designated Safeguarding Lead updated on all child protection and safeguarding issues

Trained to Level 3 in safeguarding and in the short- or long-term absence of the Designated Safeguarding Lead carry out those functions necessary to ensure the ongoing safety and protection of students

Act as a source of support, advice and expertise for all staff;

Act as a point of contact with the safeguarding partners;

Liaise with the headteacher and school social worker to inform them of issues

As required, liaise with the case manager and the local authority designated officer(s) (LADO) for child protection concerns in cases which concern a staff member;

Liaise with staff on matters of safety and safeguarding and welfare and when deciding whether to make a referral;

Promote supportive engagement with parents and/or carers;

Work with the headteacher and school social worker and relevant strategic leads, taking responsibility for promoting educational outcomes by knowing the welfare, safeguarding and child protection issues that children in need are experiencing.
