What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, passionate and inspiring Deputy Head of Science to join our team and teach the subject at all levels, in particular A-Level.
You will be working in a very cohesive and supportive department that is committed to providing an innovative and high-quality science education for all of our pupils. The Science department is comprised of 11 passionate scientists, supported by 2 specialist technicians and housed in well-appointed labs.
We are a strong team that is motivated to achieve positive pupil experiences and outcomes and has a strong history of providing STEM opportunities for students. At GCSE, we teach both AQA Combined Trilogy and AQA Separate Science courses. A specialism in Biology is desirable. The successful candidate will have an affinity with young people and will have a desire to develop the science opportunities available for students.
The successful candidate will be able to maintain and build on a culture of success where all feel valued and proud of their achievements. They will be able to lead from the front, motivating members of the team to be the best practitioners they can be and ensuring excellent outcomes for all our students.
This post offers an excellent opportunity for you to build experience in teaching at A-Level. The successful candidate will be expected to have the potential to teach science, desirably with a Biology specialism, at KS3 to KS5.
The successful candidate will demonstrate: -
- a passion for science education with an excellent subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding, particularly of teaching biology.
- they are an excellent classroom practitioner, who is experienced in teaching science at key stages 3, 4 and 5.
- the ability to help lead change, develop, motivate, challenge, support and inspire colleagues and students alike.
- success in achieving consistently good results in science, at key stage 3, 4 and 5.
- the ability to create and facilitate highly challenging and engaging lessons
- highest aspirations and expectations for all students and the science team and lead this by example.
- aspiration to progress their career in the future
- they are optimistic, positive, and cheerful.
