Deputy Head of Year job summary

City of Peterborough Academy is seeking a committed and proactive Deputy Head of Year to support the Head of Year in delivering outstanding pastoral care and academic support. This role is central to ensuring the welfare, progress, and engagement of pupils, while maintaining strong links with families and external agencies.

Main Responsibilities

Take responsibility for all aspects of pupil welfare, attendance, punctuality, and home/primary school links (where applicable)

Liaise with the Local Authority regarding Year 7 admissions, appeals, and waiting lists

Oversee and evaluate the effectiveness of transition links with the previous year group

Monitor attendance and punctuality, contacting parents when standards fall below expectations

Produce half-termly merit lists for pupils with excellent attendance and punctuality

Manage minor behaviour and discipline issues in liaison with the Head of Year, including communication with parents and identifying underperformance

Support the Head of Year in pupil set placements

Liaise with the SENCO regarding pupils with special educational needs

Oversee pupil welfare and child protection matters within the year group

Liaise with the school nurse for health-related concerns

Manage the transition process between year groups

Assist with in-year assessments and induct new pupils joining the Academy mid-year

Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role

The City of Peterborough Academy was opened in September 2013 by Greenwood Academies Trust (GAT) after a £13.8m capital build. Based on Reeves Way in Peterborough, the academy has quickly grown from strength to strength. A dedicated team of staff aim to help support every child in reaching their full potential.
