DEPUTY HEAD TEACHER job summary

The Governing Body of James Watt Primary School wish to appoint to the post of Deputy Head Teacher

Applications are invited from appropriately qualified applicants interested in the post of Deputy Head Teacher. This post is offered at Leadership Scale L12-L17. The Deputy Head Teacher will have delegated responsibilities which are both school wide and of considerable weight.

The Deputy Head Teacher will play a major role under the direction of the Head Teacher in formulating the aims and objectives of the school, establishing the policies through which they shall be achieved, managing staff and resources to achieve the aims and objectives of the school and monitor progress towards their achievement. The core duties of the post comprise of:

  • Deputising in the absence of the Head Teacher
  • Formulating the aims and objectives of the school
  • Establishing the policies through which they are to be achieved
  • Managing staff and resources to that end;
  • Monitoring progress towards their achievement

If the Head Teacher is absent from the school the Deputy Head Teacher must undertake their professional duties to the extent required by the Head Teacher/Governing Body.
