What skills and experience we're looking for
We wish to appoint an outstanding leader to join Buckler’s Mead Academy, a highly successful secondary school in Yeovil, Somerset from September 2024 (or earlier by negotiation). This senior role requires someone who will provide high quality teaching and leadership, promote the vision and values of the academy and be driven to want to improve the lives of young people.
The successful applicant will be responsible for Pastoral provision across the academy, leading on Attendance, Behaviour and Attitudes, and promoting ‘sky high expectations of all’. They will be a calm and effective leader with the ability to support and motivate students and staff to be the very best they can be.

Main duties include:
- Strategic oversight for behaviour, standards, attendance, provision for disadvantaged learners, the enrichment curriculum and the house system.
- Maintaining and developing a strong Pastoral Team that delivers collaboratively on key strategic aims, consistently adhering to the ethos, values and overall purpose of the school.
- To lead and develop strong, consistent pastoral and behaviour systems with students at the centre.
- Using consistent, fair approaches to managing behaviour, in line with the behaviour policy.
- Ensuring that high expectations of all students are clearly evident in the culture of the academy.
- Leading, as directed, on aspects of the School Improvement Plan and Self Evaluation for Behaviour and Attitudes, providing evidence of impact.
- To work with Senior and Middle Leaders to ensure all students are focused on making exceptional progress in their learning.
- To take specific Line Management responsibility for key members of the Pastoral Team.
- Providing leadership, coordination and support to ensure all Pastoral Teams demonstrate strong adherence to school values, consistent application of all pastoral policies and ensure effective use of all pastoral data to bring about improved outcomes for all.
- To take responsibility for your own professional development in a way that benefits students and staff.
- To ensure a high-profile presence around staff and students, promoting high expectations and achievements.
- To provide leadership on student and staff wellbeing.
- To lead on the rewards system across the academy.
- To act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Contributing to Academy and/or Trust INSET days and sessions as required.

Originally established as Buckler's Mead School in 1957, Buckler’s Mead Academy is now a successful 11- 16 academy where we pride ourselves on providing an inspiring education for all.
