Deputy Head Teacher job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious senior leader to join our school and support our local community.

Following the promotion of our Deputy Headteacher into headship, we are looking for a senior leader who will work closely within our dedicated staff team. Riverside is an inclusive school where challenging the status quo is the norm. We were judged ‘Good’ in all areas in our Ofsted inspection in September 2022.

We are now looking for someone who will work alongside the Headteacher, governors, staff, children and families to further develop this improvement and help keep us moving forward. You will work alongside the Headteacher to shape the future journey of the school as we move towards ‘Outstanding’ by building on our existing strengths.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has recent leadership experience and is willing to develop their leadership skills with the support of the Headteacher
  • Has a mature and calm approach, is able to be flexible and adaptable and have the confidence to lead in the Headteacher’s absence
  • Is able to promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • Is committed to exploring research-led practice and how this can be incorporated into everyday teaching & classroom provision
  • Has experience of working and leading in Early Years classrooms
  • Has experience of working with and reporting to Governors, or is willing to do so
  • Has experience of working with multiple agencies to improve outcomes for children, or is willing to do so
  • Is able to coach and mentor staff to support their continuous development in order that they can perform their roles in the most effective way possible.
  • Has experience of having had a positive impact on pupil progress and school development at whole-school level
  • Has experience of using online systems such as Scholarpack, CPOMS and FFT at a strategic level to inform reporting and shape future planning
