As we continue our journey of rapid and sustainable improvement, we are seeking a highly effective and committed Deputy Headteacher to join our senior leadership team.

Our three school rules reflect our three school values:  Care, Respect and Honesty.

What is the job role?

We are looking to appoint an outstanding leader to the post of Deputy Headteacher: Behaviour, Culture, Attendance & Operations.

This is a key role within our leadership structure, responsible for ensuring the school is calm, safe, well-organised and inclusive. The successful candidate will lead whole-school behaviour and culture, oversee daily safeguarding operations (as Deputy DSL), manage attendance systems, and ensure strong operational routines across the school.

This role offers a significant opportunity to make a meaningful impact on pupils, families and staff, and to contribute to the strategic leadership of a large and ambitious school.

The Deputy Headteacher will:

Behaviour & Culture

  • Lead whole-school behaviour systems, processes and expectations.
  • Analyse behaviour trends and implement proactive, relational strategies.
  • Lead relational and restorative practice and ensure consistency across all phases.
  • Oversee the escalation system and on-call rota.
  • Maintain a visible, supportive presence at key times of the day.

Safeguarding (Deputy DSL)

  • Lead daily safeguarding operations, including triage and case management.
  • Work with external agencies to support vulnerable pupils and families.
  • Ensure high-quality safeguarding recording and statutory compliance.

Attendance & Pastoral Leadership

  • Lead the pastoral and family support team.
  • Oversee daily attendance processes and follow-up.
  • Support and coordinate Early Help and multi-agency involvement.

Operations & Organisation

  • Lead daily routines, rotas, duties and operational systems.
  • Manage contingency planning and operational risk.
  • Act as senior leader on site in the Headteacher’s absence.

Staff Development & Line Management

  • Coach staff in behaviour management and relational practice.
  • Support wellbeing and workload management within pastoral and behaviour teams.
Who are we looking for?

We welcome applications from experienced senior leaders or exceptional assistant headteachers who can demonstrate:

  • A proven track record of improving behaviour and culture across a school.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and experience acting as DSL/Deputy DSL.
  • The ability to analyse data and respond strategically.
  • High expectations for pupils and unwavering commitment to inclusion.
  • Excellent communication, relational and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to lead with clarity, empathy and professional integrity.
  • Experience of coaching and developing staff.
  • The capacity to maintain calm, organised systems in a busy environment.

What we offer

  • A committed, values-driven senior leadership team.
  • A community that deserves strong and compassionate leadership.
  • Opportunities for professional development and system-wide involvement.
  • A supportive governing body and strong LA partnership.
  • The chance to make a significant difference in a large, complex primary school.
