About the role:

Qualities and Knowledge

  • To lead and undertake any job at the reasonable request of the Executive Headteacher and Head of School.

  • Lead SLT and senior pastoral discussions, particularly with regard to BC&E and ensure positive outcomes for students.

  • Be the schools named DSL, Lead safeguarding strategic direction and ensure the culture of safeguarding is exemplary.

  • To keep abreast of developments in education and with Ofsted – in particular in relation to BC&E, ensuring that the school adapts to necessary changes/demands/expectations.

  • Contribute to setting a strategic vision for the school and lead on aspects of the School Development Plan as directed by the Executive Headteacher and Head of School.

  • Challenge any low expectations from staff, students or parents.

  • Act as a role model for others by consistently delivering good and outstanding lessons.

  • Remain up to date with national and Trust changes to how student academic progress is evaluated and tracked, learning and teaching is evaluated, and that the curriculum reflects best practice and has a positive impact on students learning and outcomes.

  • Remain up to date with educational research and pedagogy that has a positive impact on student learning and outcomes.

  • Contribute to an ethos which reflects the core values of the Trust and enables everyone to work collaboratively, share knowledge and understanding, celebrate success and accept responsibility for outcomes.

  • Hold and articulate a clear vision that is underpinned by the school values of Integrity, Kindness and Endeavour.

  • Uphold the E21C pillars of leadership.

Students & Staff

Under the direction of the Executive Head and Head of School:

  • Lead strategically on and be accountable for student behaviour and personal development within the school.

  • Lead on the quality assurance systems and processes for BC&E in the school.

  • Lead on student behaviour tracking, interventions and outcomes within the school.

  • Lead on student exclusions and admissions.

  • Lead on safeguarding and ensure compliance and effectiveness as set out in local and national guidelines & legislation.

  • Lead the Inclusion Meetings at the school.

  • Oversee the delivery of sex and relationships education together with the wider PHSE curriculum

  • Maintain a visible presence around the school. Be a role model for staff and students.

  • Contribute to the preparation and review of the school SIP/SEF with specific input on BC&E.

  • Lead a team of pastoral staff, responsible for improving pastoral and welfare outcomes for students across the school.

  • Complete termly and weekly reports that detail the impact of initiatives on student BC&E as required by the Executive Headteacher, head of school, Trust and LGB.

  • To work with the appropriate staff to monitor the E21C BC&E rubrics; holding all teachers and support staff to account when standards are not met.

Systems & Processes

Under the direction of the Executive Head and Head of School:

  • To effectively use and lead on school & Trust data systems to track students' progress with regard to BC&E.

  • To develop processes and strategies with school leaders to address any staff or student underperformance in a timely way.

  • To lead on whole school processes to monitor and improve BC&E

  • Conduct regular student data reviews and action feedback to address any cause for concerns.

  • Set high expectations for student behaviour with regular monitoring at school level.

  • Evaluate the impact of all improvement activities on BC&E.

  • Lead on establishing staff expertise to use data to impact positively on student BC&E.

  • Embed a culture where students are constantly given appropriate challenge and high expectations.

  • Deliver personally or arrange third party staff INSET on any aspect of BC&E which requires further staff training and development.

The Self-Improving School System

  • To inspire and influence others – within and beyond Eden Park High School, including across E21C where appropriate

  • Develop a teaching community who are confident their delivery will enable students to achieve the highest grades.

  • To report to the Local Governing Body in the termly Governors report on BC&E.

  • To produce reports/presentations on BC&E as may be required by the Trust or any external body.

  • Remain up to date with current educational pedagogy and disseminate to staff where appropriate.

  • Undertake INSET as appropriate to enable ‘best expert’ status in all areas of responsibility.

  • Collaborate with other schools and organisations in order to share expertise and bring positive benefits to Eden Park High School.

  • Maintain a regular consultation with the Executive Headteacher, Head of School and any staff which are accountable to the post holder.

  • Identify opportunities to work with outside partners to develop BC&E at the school.

  • Identify opportunities for training and sharing of best practice across schools within E21C and wider where appropriate.
