Deputy Headteacher job summary

Green Park Village Primary Academy would like to offer you the chance to apply for this exciting and vital role of Deputy Headteacher.

The role of Deputy Headteacher will require you to work with the Headteacher to embed outstanding teaching and learning across the school through the development of the curriculum and staff. You will be required to deputise and lead in the absence of the Headteacher.

In particular, successful applicants should have:

  • The relevant degree and QTS
  • At least four years experience of teaching in the primary setting, with leadership experience of at lease one core subject
  • Experience of successful Ofsted inspections
  • Evidence of further effective professional development
  • Experience of successfully managing and leading a team, including working within HR processes
  • Be aware and compliant with the monitoring and evaluation process
  • Be able to contribute to the SEF and SDP, being impactful in all actions
  • Have a proven record of raising educational standards by using data and have the ability to set targets to achieve this

Successful applicants must have experience of leading safeguarding as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), to continue effective safeguarding practice. The Deputy Head is the school's DSL. The Deputy Head is the school's Attendance Champion, working closely in and support and challenge capacity with all stakeholders.

You should:

  • Be a courageous leader, driven by values and able to articulate significant evidence of relational leadership
  • Have strong leadership skills that result in the provision of first-class learning and teaching for opportunities for all pupils, particularly those with SEND or in receipt of PP
  • Be skilled to line manage and work alongside the school's SENDCo to continue the school's strong inclusive provision
  • Be able to develop outstanding practice in learning and teaching through credible modelling and side by side peer support, setting targets for continuous improvement and provide support through appraisal, planning and delivering CPD on matters of learning and teaching as required
  • Be extremely well organised, able to consistently follow the school's effective systems, procedures and established practice
  • Be a supportive member of the team and able to bring out the best in others
  • Be willing to work across schools in the cluster, as part of systems leadership

Green Park Village Primary Academy is a new primary school built in a new housing development in Reading, Green Park Village, which opened in September 2020 in its permanent school building. In September 2023, the academy will have Reception to Year Three cohorts. The school will grow to be full two-form primary, with space to open a Nursery provision for pre-school children. The school serves a diverse community of families both local and from across Reading.
The academy has a small, passionate and committed team, working hard together to take us to the next level in our journey towards exceptional futures for all of our children. There is no doubt about it, setting Green Park Village Primary Academy up on its next phase will take vision, dedication and hard work, but being part of that exciting and rare journey will be very rewarding to see the academy continue to take shape over the next few years.
