What skills and experience we're looking for
This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled, experienced, committed and ambitious KS2 specialist to develop as a Deputy Headteacher in a thriving school and prepare for leadership in a strong and growing trust.
As of September 2024, the current Headteacher, Mr Mark Couper-Barton, will become the Executive Headteacher of both Mayfield Primary School and our sister school in the trust, East Crompton St George’s CE Primary. As a result of this, and the growth of the school, we have decided to create a second Deputy Headship at Mayfield, to focus on the quality of education, particularly in KS2, where staffing will be growing as the additional year works its way up the school.
We have a committed, highly motivated, vibrant and creative teaching team, people who want the best for our children. Early Years is really strong. KS1 has significantly improved, although there is still work to do to ensure that all children build on the excellent foundations of Early Years. At KS2, we remain, on average, 20% behind national ARE. This gap is a challenge and impact of the disruption of lockdown is still working through our school, as it is in many others. Our children need expert, precise teaching to enable them to become confident learners who can remember more and apply that learning. Our priority in making this appointment is to secure an experienced teacher and leaders with a track record of improvement in outcomes and progress at KS2 who can lead and model that quality for all staff.
The new Senior Leadership Team at Mayfield Primary School will therefore include the Executive Headteacher, two Deputies and an Assistant Headteacher. One Deputy Headteacher (this post) will focus on the quality of education and the development of teaching, particularly in our growing KS2; the second Deputy Headteacher will focus on the pastoral provision, pupil welfare, safeguarding and behaviour and will act as Head of School when the Executive Headteacher is in East Crompton St George’s.
Both Deputy Headteachers are equal and can be called on to deputise for the Executive Headteacher, as appropriate, both will lead staff training and development in their respective areas, and both will report directly to the Local Governing Committee on their respective specialist areas, ensuring that they have the breadth of experience and the training, mentoring and investment to progress as school leaders, ideally in our trust.
