Deputy Headteacher job summary

Do you lead with your head and your heart? Read on…

At Oastlers School, we know that learning doesn’t begin with a worksheet — it begins with relationships. As a proud Trauma Informed UK School, we work every day to help children and young people move towards positive emotional and relational health so that learning — and lives — can truly flourish.

We’re now looking for a Deputy Headteacher who can help steer the ship alongside our Headteacher: someone who combines strategic thinking with compassion, and who believes that school improvement and pupil wellbeing go hand-in-hand.

Oastlers is a well-established SEMH specialist provision, supporting up to 179 learners across two sites in Central Bradford and Keighley. Behind every one of those learners is a talented, committed team who believe that every child deserves the chance to succeed — sometimes through a different path.

We are a school that’s proudly part of Exceed Academies Trust — a high‑reputation family of 14 schools with a system‑lead role through the Exceed Teaching School Hub and outstanding Exceed SCITT. You’ll collaborate, contribute and grow within a Trust that believes in inclusive, community‑minded excellence.

The successful candidate will:

  • Inspire and positively lead a team, setting clear expectations while supporting colleagues to thrive

  • Work alongside the Headteacher to shape both the strategic vision and operational leadership of the school

  • Use data thoughtfully to monitor progress, identify priorities and drive meaningful improvement

  • Lead key areas of school development, ensuring initiatives translate into real impact for pupils

  • Champion professional development, supporting staff through CPD, appraisal and reflective practice

  • Model excellent teaching, bringing strong classroom practice and a proven record of raising standards across the primary phase

Most importantly, you’ll believe — like we do — that when children feel safe, understood and valued, remarkable things can happen.

We offer:

  • A highly inclusive, valued-led Trust with a strong local and regional reputation.
  • Investment in your professional development
  • A modern learning environment across both sites, excellent support from Governors and central Trust colleagues, and a healthy approach to workload and wellbeing
